Ashe Lake Community was established in the early 1970s as a private lakefront community. It is located on State Road 1147 (Nettle Knob Rd) in Ashe County, North Carolina, approximately four miles Southeast of West Jefferson, and twenty-two miles Northeast of Boone on State Highway 221. Originally 1,153 lots were platted within the community. Currently there are 79 permanent homes, 20 condo units, and four apartment units located within the Ashe Lake Community. Ashe Lake Community has an HOA designated as ALPO (Ashe Lake Property Owners Association.) ALPO collects annual dues from all property owners in order to maintain/sustain our community roads, lake and common areas. For example, after Hurricane Helene, it was community dues that paid to repair two washed out roads for the benefit of in the entire community.
Ashe Lake is designated as a wildlife preserve. A wildlife preserve is a protected natural area of land or water focused on the conservancy of wild animals, plants, or geological features. To promote wildlife conservation, preserves are safeguarded from activities like land development, industrial use, hunting, and motorized recreation. The soils are clay / rocky and support a growth of white pines, oak, poplar, maple, birch, beech, dogwood, azaleas, and rhododendron. The land averages 2,745 feet in elevation at the mean water level of Ashe Lake and rises to 3,411 feet at the highest point.
As you may have guessed Ashe Lake is the focal point of our community. Ashe Lake is a small, private, 27.65 acre non-motorized reservoir lake that is perfect for kayaking, canoeing, paddle boarding, fishing, swimming or just lazing about on the shores. Our Community Park is open to all Ashe Lake property owners and their guests and includes a dock & cement picnic table.
Electric Service is provided by Blue Ridge Electric Membership Corp.
Water Service is by either private well or existing connection to Carolina Water Service.
Wastewater is provided by private septic system.
Our community is constantly changing - with many of us improving our homes and property. ALPO is working to improve the roads and community spaces as well. The ALPO Board will advise the community of road efforts that may temporarily impact residents' access and/or road drainage.
Please advise the ALPO Board by phone or email, of property improvements you are considering that may potentially impact other residents' access and/or existing road drainage.
